High-performance power, long-distance comfort, extravagance: the benchmark figures of the Porsche Macan S Diesel are impressive. For all fans of the dynamic vehicle, Hamann’s tuning experts now set the bar even higher. As is generally known, the model’s name “Macan” was derived from the Indonesian word for tiger – and it is exactly this tiger that Hamann frees from the ties of a series actor.
The face of the Macan’s S Diesel version, which Hamann upgraded, has self-confident traits. The tiger seems ready to jump – an effect achieved by the low front apron line and the lowering of the car. Hamann’s aerodynamics attachment emphasises the sharp “teeth” of the Macan Turbo’s standard front and sets distinctive accents. The car refiner’s interpretation of the Macan S Diesel appearing well-toned is coherently continued in powerfully shaped wing extensions making the predator’s body grow by twelve centimetres in width. The side profile is completed by an aerodynamically optimised side skirt that Hamann shaped in a particularly striking manner.
At the rear, Hamann’s tiger is equally packed with muscles. The hind legs gleam with a dynamic composite design trim and the “sharpened” rear spoiler. So much for the prelude.
App-controlled Active Sound sports exhaust system
The rear’s scene is dominated by the potent Active Sound sports exhaust system Hamann exclusively developed for the Macan S Diesel. The seamlessly integrated system made of high-grade stainless steel unleashes an impressive V8 sound – but only when the driver feels like it. The musical tremolo is supplied to two high-performance sound actuators via a special main control unit and a networked amplifier. Hamann integrated the actuators into the two mufflers with two silencers each and a total of four tail pipes that have a diameter of 89 mm. Depending on the vehicle’s colour or individual wishes Hamann offers ceramic-coated tail pipes in black as well as chrome and carbon fibre designs.
The “cherry on the cake” is that the system can be controlled by the smartphone. The enabling WiFi module is delivered with wiring kit. Thus, the sound cannot only be turned on and off via the cruise control lever. The Hamann App, which was exclusively programmed for the Macan, has three settings: “off” for standard sound, “medium” for some decent sound and “loud” delivers the full soundscape. Furthermore, the App allows to precisely and individually adjust the sound characteristics and volume control. Fancy gadget: coming with a virtual “accelerator pedal”, the App can be used as remote control for virtually opening the throttle without revving up the engine. Also the virtual “Engine Launch” function is just as attention grabbing.
Power advancement to 310 hp (228 kW) and 680 Nm
But that is not enough for the individualisation experts from Laupheim – also the engine power of the standard Macan S Diesel may be a little sharper. The result are overwhelming 310 hp (228 kW) at 4 200 rpm (standard: 258 hp (190 kW), 4 000–4 250 rpm) chasing the mega SUV to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds only (standard: 6.1 seconds) with the Sport Chrono package. The peak torque comes with imposing 680 Nm at 2 500 rpm already (standard: 580 Nm at 1 750–2 500 rpm) making a lot an easy prey for the car.
